PortaWifi. That's how we ROLL!

Can’t get enough of the virtual world? Need to stay connected to Internet 24/7? Want to change your citizenship from an Earthling to Netizen? Well you can (not really) NOW! With the help of this superpower thingymajig called PortaWifi. Yes you! Close your mouth before a fly could enter it. Spare me the expression already. Im gonna tell you everything bout it. Just this time, I’ll keep it short and CRISPY (Promise!)

So basically this is how it works. The device which looks exactly like a normal 3G USB dongle comes with a car charger and 3-pin indoor charger with USB adapter. When plug in to the car charger or the indoor charger, PortaWifi instantly transforms a car, home or office into a Wifi hotspot. Just how it fits its name, Portable. Pretty sick eh? (In a good way of course.) It comes with Celcom’s Data Plans just like the pic below, where the users can enjoy mobile network data speeds of up to 21Mbps.

How the magical PortaWifi looks like

Celcom’s PortaWifi DataPlan

In my opinion, I think the price is quite pricey for now. Hopefully the KadSiswa work its magic in this case (LOL, I wish!) Anyways, I don’t know/not sure bout other telecommunication company like Maxis, P1 etc. If they have come up with this kinda plan as well. My point here is just how amazing the technology is today that u can be online literally 24/7. Well, now surf away fellow Netizens!

  1. From the get-go, I thought there were some issues with my internet connection because your entry was short but not too short :p ... Well, this is gonna be a lil contentious tho.

I have few points to talk about here. Does this dongle work like other broadband dongles? Just plug & play? Or do I have to own a CAR before I can use this or perfect electricity? How portable is that. I think it is just too pricy for, say students to buy. Moreover, it also has data volume which will definitely be so slow once you reach the quota! In addition, I don't think it can cater the needs of a family to stay connected to the internet. Because this dongle works as a Wi-Fi hotspot, thus many people will use it simultaneously. Some will watch Youtube, some will play games, etc. Lastly, I don't really think we can literally sit at a place for a long time. We need to move here and there, back and forth. But yeah, the idea of using this Wi-Fi thingamagic, you gotta sit in the vicinity of it FOREVER.

Just my 2 cents Siti Muzlifah.

p/s: I am ready to receive Muz's comment on my blog entry very soon! ;-)

  3. Thank you for that really thoughtful and well-crafted just like a mastermind in a puzzlegame comment. Well yeah your longsighted eyes are not failing on you Farid. My post is indeed short and crispy :D

First things first. Yeap it is like other USB modem but what differs it is it comes with a 3pin adapter, charger and a car adapter. Please read the details or Do I have to higlight for your eyes? Thats what that makes it all so portable. No doubt it is pricey just like I MENTIONED, that is the reason I said hopefully there will be discounts for students like us. Anyways they still do have the rebate, so you basically pay around RM60/month. For students who mostly are already subscribing to bband which provides 1 - 1.5G with a price of around RM48 each month, I think it would be an awesome deal if they cud fork out just RM10 more for a better coverage, higher speed and more data volume. Just compare it. One is RM48, 1-1.5G, and the other is RM58(rebate), 4G and PORTABLE. Can I include speed can go up to 21Mbps? So yeah, YOU do the math. Comeon, you could spend on movies. Why not use that money to add for your PortaWifi and you can download all the movies in the world you want.

Regarding the needs of a family, I mean, SERIOUSLY? If you already have a family, might as well use UNIFI. Or a more affordable Streamyx with Wifi. Porta Wifi caters more towards the youth and those in the business world who constantly are on the go. It is not really suitable for family I would say.

All in all, the whole point that I would like to stress here is the idea and POTABILITY of it. The data plan and sorts comes secondary. Well, that's my 2 cents Muhamad Farid.

P/s: You bet I will comment on yours :D

PP/s : Now I am ready to receive response from Farid. Keep em coming. Or not :P

    1. "First things first. Yeap it is like other USB modem but what differs it is it comes with a 3pin adapter, charger and a car adapter." - then why it is so different than any other typical broadband dongle if I can just plug in my Celcom Broadband and surf the internet? Which is MORE PORTABLE!

It is funny to see how you're being so contradictory over here just to win over your argument. WOW. Hello, Celcom RM48 data plan you'll get 4GB. Get your fact right. Even if you meant it was the speed, it's MBPS. Plus, you gotta pay so much money for the up-front payment and that's why you're entitled to get the rebate FOR ONLY A YEAR. Well, have you actually used this Wi-Fi magic and got your speed UP to 21MBPS? Hello in fact, UNIFI can't promise you a stable and smooth internet speed.

I don't really get your characterization of STUDENTS, BUSINESS PEOPLE and FAMILY over here? People who are on-the-go won't even bother using this when they have their smartphones and tablets to be frank. Why do they have to take up the hassle of plugging in the dongle and stay put because they can't go anywhere.

Moreover, why it's not suitable for family? They have a car, no? Let's say if I wanna get connected in any car using your Wi-Fi magic, I'll definitely be so stressed out because I can't access to anything outside the car. So much of having the idea of portability.

How are you gonna defend your case of PORTABILITY if it is not!

p/s: Please take your chill pills.

    2. Wow. SO much hatred and fury being poured out here. Keep calm and get an eye-checkup. Eh!

What you dun seem to understand or pretend to not understand here is how it is portable in the sense that you can just carry it around and get connected to Internet at the same time. Yes it might be portable for you if youre using your tab or lappy. But only for you and YOURSELF. Say if youre in a car and you have your friend on board. She cn get connected as well. One thing that your normal mediocre bband cant do. Yes she may have her own data plan for her tab or phone. She MIGHT NOT as well.

As for the case of people who are constantly on the go, yes true that they have their own device with their own data plan yada yada yada...One thing that I need to POINT OUT here as well, you know how there are people cannot just work on ONE device? They need to have more than their phone or tab to do a certain work that these aforementioned devices are unable to. Say they need to go on lappy and their tab/phone at the same time, this PortaWifi is able to do so by allowing both devices to be connected to Internet simultaneously. Something your normal beloved mediocre bband might have hiccups to do so. Oh wait no. More like IMPOSSIBLE.

I dunno whther youre trynna be funny or wanna be a clown because Im sure as hell have been using Celcom plan for almost a year now using the RM48/month with 1.5G. So instead of attacking me blindly, why don’t you get your facts right first. And the upfront payment, it is not much difference than your normal bband which roughly also cost around RM100++ So yeah, I would say it is more less the same excluding the rebate. On unifi, are you seriously questioning the smooth and stable connection of it which uses fibre optic as the cable? You, my friend needs a reality check!

It is INDEED portable for family as well. Definitely for a family who travels a lot for example. They can just plug it in the car and everyone gets connection to Internet. Say if youre on a roadtrip, dun tell me you would love to get stuck at the backseat throughout the whole journey! Yes you can just doze off but for how long!? Basically, PortaWifi is PORTABLE. And it caters to everyone’s need of getting connection at their own expense anytime anywhere they want.

      I can do this forever.

P/s : You need em more than I do. Obvi :DDD
